As is Right

It doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots.  Four year olds are supposed to be running around.

What’s wrong with her? they ask.
Not as much as must be wrong with you, I want to reply.

That attitude though, the one held by the shallow observer and reflected through my own thoughts, diminishes the speaker more than my child.  Normally I work not to let it bother me, but every so often discontent rises inside me, spurred by an insensitive remark or an unpleasant reminder of my baby’s unrealized potential.

I know the better answer, though:  Not nearly as much as is right.

The gall of some people is unbelievable at times. The good in me always wanted to believe it was innocent curiousity or empathy, but the realist in me knew it was sometimes nosiness sprinkled with relief that it wasn't their kid. Your anger is okay. It's real. It's there. Let it release somehow. Maybe not directly on the stranger, but you can think whatever you want : )

Do you want some of my "F*** Off" then underneath that "Google Batten's Disease" business cards? :)

Ceilia is so beautiful.

I love coming to the Betz Family Columbus blog for my daily dose of wisdom, hope, and childhood cuteness x2. Thank you for sharing your loving journey so honestly and courageously. I hope to be half the parent you two are.

My name is Morgan Amanda, and you can find me on my own journey at my new blog, www.inthegalesisheard.blogspot.com. Bear with me as I figure out how to live out loud and online.

Good wishes always-

P.S. Although Celia cannot tell certain strangers like those ignorant, insensitive individuals you described in this post to take a hike, she doesn't need to because she speaks through you. Your love is her language, and it is the most beautiful sound in the world.
